“Burnt Roots” becomes an exploration of roots and identity inspired by the sounds and impressions of the Italian countryside and its people.
David Macchione's debut recording “Burnt Roots - story of an olive tree” tackles the xylella fastidiosa outbreak that since October of 2013 has started to decimate the olive tree population in his home region of Puglia, in Southern Italy.
10 years later, science has not yet been able to find a cure for the disease, and the only solution seems to be violent eradication. But the further you look into this issue the more questions start arising- Has intensive farming and an indiscriminate use of herbicides brought us here?
Uncovering the tale of a history of struggle between local farmers and the central government, and of modern science versus ancient wisdom, “Burnt Roots” becomes an exploration of roots and identity inspired by the sounds and impressions of the Italian countryside and its people.
